I am looking for any info about Lt.R.O.S Salmon RNVR DSC. He was with 509th.LCA Flottila. He participated in the Netherlands on the 22nd.March 1945 with 2 LCA's in Operation Helen with 41 RMC. All info/photo's welcome. I have the 2 books of 41 RMC where he is named. -They did what was asked of them by Raymond Mitchell. -Commando despatch rider by Raymond Mitchell.
Through The Navy Lists have found that he could be be Ross Osborne Spencer SALMON Acting Sub-Lt RNVR 21 Aug 1942 Sub Lt 21 Feb 1943 Lt. 21 Feb 1945 By October 1945 he is listed as Lt. RNVR at HMS Copra & by now has been awarded the DSC. There is an online tree on ancestry, whose owner is his nephew, which shows that Ross lived 1922-2004. It also has a couple of photographs of him. When he took his pilots licence in 1950 he was still at his prewar address in Harrow Weald, Middlesex & gave his occupation as a farmer. Travers
Heres the LG entry for his DSC: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/37136/supplement/3190/data.pdf There is an obituary here for Ross Salmon from Wisdens which appears to be for the same man, who was the statistician for Test Match Special in the 1960's. This describes his wartime career as flying secret missions in enemy territory, reputedly wearing a top hat & white gloves. Obituaries index: P-W
Thanks travers1940!! this helps...Could you get some photo's? I dont have ancestry.... found this! BBC - Devon Features - Ross Salmon obituary
He's here on a Pathe news reel film in his role as The Jungle Cowboy Ross Salmon There was a wartime photo on there, but I am not sure how things stand reproducing without tree owners permission. Will send you a pm tomorrow. Travers

Hi Neil If Ronny doesn't notice your post, after you have made a certain number of posts you can send a direct message by clicking on his icon on R/H side any of his messages. If your grandad served with Ross Salmon in 509th LCA Flotilla he may be in the 1945 group photo taken at HMS Brontosaurus (Castle Toward). The photo is here in the article on Sub Lt Islwyn Vaughn No 2 Combined Training Centre - HMS Brontosaurus Travers
