I just had the fortune to purchase this massive grouping that belonged tp Lt.J.B. Muise. He was a navigator on a B-17 from the 493rd Bomb Group. On the 5th of November 1942 after completing a bomb run over a chemical plant at Ludwigshafen, Germany his plane received flak hits that damaged 1 & 2 engines. The pilot gave the bail out bell and thirty seconds later the plane was hit with another flak shell destroying the front portion of the plane, killing six on board and the rest were blown clear. Muise parachuted safely and spent the remainder of the war as a POW in Belaria compound of Stalag Luft lll. He was also part of the "Long March" in Jan 1945 to avoid the oncoming Russians. The grouping also includes a Wartime Log that is for British Prisoners. He did drawings of the camp, recipes, restaurants he was going to and names of other prisoners in the camp. There also is his POW Tag and Pink Stalag ID File Cards with photo. The parents saved the Red Cross letters from him and also other Western Unions when he was listed as MIA. I have just started going through the piles of paperwork and letters.
