    Hi All

A Lt Gerald Aubrey Alderson from Tickhill died on 17 January 1941 - and is commemorated on the Lee-on-Solent Memorial. His brother died in WW1 (Aged 17) - I knew HMS Goshawk was a shore station, but I know very little of Gerald's war service.

Does anyone know of him or how or where he died.

    Thanks

    John

John, please see the below. It would appear he was reported Missing presumed killed onboard the steamship Almeda Star

ALDERSON, Gerald A, Ty/Lieutenant (A), RNVR, Almeda Star, steamship, (Goshawk, O/P), 17 January 1941, MPK

Lost: 17/01/1941 when torpedoed by German Submarine U-96 commanded by Heinrich Lehmann-Willenbrock about 350 miles west of the island of Lewis in the Hebrides at position 58.16N, 13.40W [10]. John, HMS Goshawk, was a Royal Naval Air STation in Trinidad, so it is possible that he was a passanger on his way back there.
