Happy New Year to All... I Am looking for details of Lieutenant George Hubert Wyndham CLARK, 1st Battalion, Welsh Guards. Like many who served he was very reticent about his war years and I am attempting to piece his story together for his daughter. --------------------------------------------------------------------- The only details I have are as follows: 2nd Lt. - 09.05.1936 Lt. - 09.05.1939 Cadet, Eton College Contingent, Junior Division, Officer Training Corps 09.05.1936 - Commissioned, Welsh Guards - Supplementary Reserve of Officers 19.08.1939 - Temporary short service commission * (1945/46?) - Serving in Denmark (* listed in the Apr 1941 edition of the Army List, but no longer in Apr 1944 or later editions) THE LONDON GAZETTE, 8 MAY, 1936 SUPPLEMENTARY RESERVE OF OFFICERS - FOOT GUARDS. Welsh Guards—George Hubert Wyndham CLARK (late Cadet, Eton Coll. Contgt., Jun. Div., O.T.C.) to be 2nd Lt. 9th May 1936. 1 WG War Diary - 1941 July 27 Wimbledon Lieutenant G.H.W. CLARK and Lieutenant R.M.D. THESIGER umpires for HOME GUARD Exercise in “P” Zone. ----------------------------------------------------------------- If anyone has any details of Lt Clark and his time with 1 WG, I would be most grateful to hear from them... Many thanks in anticipation Roddy
Have you contacted Diane at her Guards Website? I have the WG History plus a few War Diaries but I'm at Kew until the weekend.
Drew - Diane's website...? ...and I envy you at TNA - I could spend all day, every day in there...unfortunately I do not get there that often... Any help with Lt Clark of the WG would be great - the one diary not on this forum is 1 WG in France 1940... Many thanks again Roddy
I have that and I'll check when I get home, I spoke to Diane and I have the same WG stuff as her so I'll check the Regts history too - have you told the daughter to apply for his service records from RHQ? They arrive a lot quicker than the Army ones and there should be more details will be in them than what you've posted. Andy
