This is really great background info & I had never realised just how many civilians were involved. By the end of the war the main food supply chain was controlled by the government & a man such as Douglas Mac Olive would have been used to working with the government and its departments to feed the nation. An ideal man to help feed starving Europe & deal with all the departments & agencies involved, particularly as he was by 1945 a temporary Major.
