Sorry for such a late reply, as I'm abroad, but when I get back I'll be sure to find more info. Glad to see you're interested

I'm so pleased I have found this thread. I am writing a book about the 2nd Bn East Yorkshire Regt, based on interviews I did 20 years ago and my PhD. Any proceeds from the book will be going to the PWO Regtal Association for benevolent and commemorative use. I haven't been able to find the copyright for your grandfather's piece about D Day but would love to quote it in the book - it underpins and provides valuable historical background information for all the other accounts. And I have many! Please could you let me know (if you know it) who I approach for copyright clearance - is it your family? Would love to hear from you. T Craggs

    Hi,

I've sent a PM to member Charlie Dorman - O'Gowan to alert him to the last message as he hasn't been on the forum for almost a year.

    What a pussy, this LondonNik.

Did he forget to put on his big girl panties?

I don't know why he has deleted all of his content (perhaps there is a good explanation), but I don't think it should be permitted as it destroys the flow of conversation and renders threads unintelligible. It's also pointless in situations where a subsequent poster has quoted your words.

Hutchinson rang a bell with me. It turns out that he spent some weeks in command of 8th DLI in 151st Brigade of 50th Division in Normandy. My book says that he "proved physically unfit," the source for same being Lewis and English, 8th Battalion the Durham Light Infantry, p. 269. I didn't know he had been wounded on D-Day with 2nd East Yorks, but he may have rushed back into the line with 8th DLI before he was fully recovered.

I think I knew a Dorman O'Gowan who served in the Irish Guards in the 1970s & 1980s

A few years late I know, but this is his great grandson again, yeah that must be him he lived in Bells Folly. Any chance you'd be willing to sell the binoculars, or I'd at least like to see them if possible. All the best

    Jasper,

Welcome aboard Davy Watson has not logged on here since 9/4/2020, just after his post. I will send him a PM (you cannot till you have posted five times) and ask him to return to take a look. It does depend on the email address he gave when registering is still valid.
