I took this one in the late 90s after it had been moved forward a few yards, and had a hedge planted as a background. Very good too.

Hi to all, quite a number of information and precious documents, but also new questions, many thanks to all.
About "near", or "bei" in german, well, very common term too often used in reports, even if not at a scale as stated above in Australia, have to care about it when it's written "near the target" or "near such town". It sometimes can be up to 30 km from there... So when searching a crash site, not always a good start !
    Best to all

I read this thread with complete fascination. Fascination to think I may be related to the pilot of ME757 Edward Relton and also because of the level of information provided by everyone who has contributed to the discussion.

I now live in Melbourne, Australia after having moved from Banbury in the UK 9 years ago, Banbury has both Upper Heyford and Silverstone villages in close proximity, so I can relate to the geographical areas in the UK, and also to the spirit of the Australian people after now living here for a while. They all come together in this story of the loss of ME757.

My interest in this story came about through my interest in Genealogy and tracing my family history, so any further information on Edward Harry Maxwell RELTON would be gratefully received and just maybe I'll be able to put together the pieces of a puzzle that links us.

  6. I dropped by the CWGC Cemetery this morning to pay respects. Very quiet and peaceful. Some pics attached, Edward Relton's included for Martin. Great to have the back story. Thanks to all contributors.

I'm very happy so many information was gathered since Mark's original post in 2008... We now know the main reason of the crash, the background of several crew members if not all, have discovered many pictures.
Thanks to all who took part. Hopefully Martin may come back later with the pilot's picture if tracing the family history opens new doors.

Good remembering, but again a war in 2022, strange human race with always some people wanting to dominate others, killing or destroying so many people and things without any respect.

  9. For those who don't know it there is a very good site run Brett Whittam and Terry Heard who are compiling information about both WW1 and WW2 war graves. They are always grateful for current pictures of graves and any information about those who fell. Here's the link to the Plougastel site Plougastel-Daoulas Communal Cemetery

  10. Please to report that the Gravestones and surrounds were cleaned up last week, after pressure form the locals Plogastel Daoulas 1 sept 23.JPG . CWGC visiting this month to check condition of the stones
