Gurkha ordered back to UK after beheading dead Taliban fighter | Mail Online

A Gurkha soldier has been flown back to the UK after hacking the head off a dead Taliban commander with his ceremonial knife to prove the dead man’s identity.
    ...
His unit had been told that they were seeking a ‘high value target,’ a Taliban commander, and that they must prove they had killed the right man.

"So as he didn't have a calling card I brought this DNA sample..."

This is considered a gross insult to the Muslims of Afghanistan, who bury the entire body of their dead even if parts have to be retrieved.
Bullsh, what about when they blow themselves to itsy bitsy pieces? Curiously I read that one of the parts that survive is the penis. From a guy who served there:
It was disturbing how often those would be found, laying somewhere, after the bombing. The useful psyops portion of said info is that guess what the local dogs usually grabbed up right away?? Yes Virginia, Iraqi dogs had a thing for suicide bomber penis, and also scalp, for some reason. Maybe it was the biggest single piece the dog could grab and run off with???

We couldn't bring ourselves to shoot the dogs(we were laughing too hard) so several jihadis are running through the afterlife with bad haircuts and sans penis. An eternity of frustrated virgins.

Poor little put upon Talibanner. My heart just bleeds for him.

Does this mean he doesn't get a date with the 72 Virginians?

    Now that is scary!!

I dont see what the Gurkha did as being wrong, he was obeying orders, but maybe a photo would have done??

    regards

He didn't need to be able to seek them out because there can't be any left.

The Canadian Captain who was court martialled for shooting a Taliban who had no hope of living - has been acquitted of 2nd degree murder BUT found guilty of indecent behaviour - which means that he can still be jailed for five years - and his career is over .

Naturally there is hell on after this verdict and we have not heard the last of this idiotic decision...
    cheers

I see your 72 Virginians and raise you one Californian! What's the problem with this soldier, at least he chopped the head off after the subject was dead already, not before as others use to do.

  9. If he was allready dead? nah, doesnt hurt my feelings at all. a "little" taste of their own med.

german paras were involved in a trial shortly after the beginning of the afganistan mission..they took photos sitting in front of some bones and skulls they found in the afghan desert in a clay pit alongside russian tank wrecks. link says, presumably remainings of the russian afghanistan-campaign.
a unit which was at the same place at a different time also took photos, posing with the skulls. (photos attached). when it comes to defilement they take it serious and point with their fingers.

but I guess in that particular case of proofing the taliban comanders identity: desperate disease require desperate remedies.

You only have my word for it of course but I don't give a damn for what happens to the enemies of my country, dead or alive; and for what the Ghurka did I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over, seems like good initiative in fact. I do give a lot though for the reputation of our troops and agree that in flying him back it is seen as some sort of disciplinary measure, and I hope it ends there although the 'politically correct ' people will no doubt become involved. There seems little point in our troops being in Afghanistan if we start copying the acts of barbarism of the people we are fighting. I know that what the Ghurka did doesn't rate on any scale to the sort of treatment the Taliban dish out but that is the difference between them and us and why we are there.

IMO in most of these instances the accusation is really "giving ammo to enemy propaganda", which should be avoided if possible, and as usual when propaganda is involved truth and justice take second seat.
It may make sense the "spike the enemy guns" with a court martial in the case of the more glaring blunders but kicking the guy out is the worst that should happen to him.

Won't the Gurkha be able to sue the MoD for discrimination, having been denied the right to express his cultural identity by lopping someone's head off?

Then we'll get lawyers acting for former Communist Terrorists (Malayan Emergency) asking why it was acceptable to remove Chinese heads and hands for identification, but not Afghan ones.

Political correctness: respecting the right of other cultures and belief systems not to respect the rights of other cultures and belief systems

Let the Gurkhas do their thing in their peace of mind and the Taliban will be checking under their beds for the Bogeyman :D

Just tell the other troops they have to lace their boots a certain way...

It's acceptable to blow our troops to pieces but as soon as there's something they can pick up on they shout Foul!

Utter rubbish, let the Gurkha do his job

To be fair to the Taliban, I don't think they've shouted foul; this comes across as a self-inflicted guilt trip.
