At the recent Show of Shows, i purchased the Regular Army, Certificate of Service for James Whittle. Served as a Guardsman in the Grenadier Guards from 23-10-36 to 15-4-46. Release Leave Certificate has a hand-written testimonial by Lt. General, Sir Miles Dempsey, dated 21 ov 1945, Singapore. Is there any manner to find out further details on Mr. Whittle's service? The book lists enlistment data, service dates by Country with dates and Certificate of Transfer to the Reserves, Qualifications and Medals awarded. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Do you know what battalion(s) he was in? If you do you could get copies of the battalions war diaries.
No additional unit data listed. His service record shows no information of unit beyond Grenadier Guards, service with the BEF, North Africa, Italy, NW Europe, SEAC. Dates are listed and time in theatre served. Thanks for the tip...I'll continue the hunt!

6 GREN GDS, 5 GREN GDS and 3 GREN GDS served in Italy. 6 GREN GDS at Salerno, 5 GREN GDS at Anzio and 3 GREN GDS at Cassino. FdeP Of all of the above units only 3 Grenadier Guards served in France during 1940. That said it doesn't mean he didn't transfer from one Battalion to another.
