Found his birth at findmypast in 1919, but surname is spelt Keats on their website. Maybe a transcription error at findmypast as well as Ancestry TD.

Effects £500. The death was registered at Lanchester, Durham and he was 44 years old, so born c1887. There is a marriage between Percy W Keates and Alice Talbot Q1 1916 at Gateshead, this links in with the birth record posted above – could this be your GG Grandfather?? Like you I cannot find a death record for you G Grandfather.
