Looking for info on Bramwell Frederick Thomas Johnson RAF

    Does anyone have info on Sgt. Bramwell Frederick Thomas Johnson 40 Squadron RAF CWGC entry here CWGC - Casualty Details who was killed on 16/17July 1941 on a raid on Hamburg?

    I'm looking for as much info as possible on this incident and his RAF career and any other photos of him if they exist.

    I attach a photo for people's interest.

    Wellington IC X9630 BL-J
    Op. Hamburg

    Took off from Alconbury at 2320 hrs. Crashed into the sea off the Dutch coast.


    Crew.

    Sgt. A W P. Bird RNZAF +
    Sgt. B F T. Johnson +
    P/O. J R. Jamieson RCAF pow
    Sgt. L J. Harrison +
    Sgt. B. Hassall +
    Sgt. O J.Platt RCAF +

    The aircraft radioed routinely as it crossed the Dutch coast on its return, but was not heard from again. Only the Observer, Sgt. Jamieson surviving a night-fighter attack.

    I presume that Johnson was still alive when the aircraft crashed into the sea, if everyone else died in the attack? Would that be correct? How did they know he survived the attack? Was he the last person they heard from? Thank you Peter.

    Sgt. Jamieson of the RCAF became a POW and the rest of the crew perished.
