In the London Gazette for 7 November 1946, Warrant Officer Class 2 (Acting) Eric Samuel Carver of the Lincolnshire Regiment, was awarded the Military Medal in recognition for gallant and distinguished services whilst engaged in Special Operations in South East Asia.

I'm looking for and can't find a citation listed in the National Archives database and wonder if the files containing citations of this nature are closed. Can anyone help and advise.

    Cheers - Rob

He's not listed in the regimental history. Did he get it for something he did after WW2? Kew only have the WW2 citations available as far as I'm aware.

1 Lincolns were in South East Asia, mostly in Sumatra in 1946, when colonial troubles against continuing Dutch Rule were on the increase. When I copy their war diary for this period, something may come up for WO Carver. He may possibly have been attached to another unit.

A large number of other awards were made in the same LG pages as Carver, DSO's, MC's, MM's, OBE's, MBE's and MID's, all under the heading of Special Operations. A sample check of these on the NA database has revealed that these don't show up either. I still think that Special Ops may be the reason for the no show. Maybe there is a longer time limit before they can be seen.

Di may know but I'm sure they are just the WW2 citations. Tom (TigjerB) will have the war diary in a few days - I copied it for him last week. He has a mass of info on this area (Post war Java etc) so it may be worth asking him.

I did find an Eric Carver on the NA database which relates to Special Operations for the date the MM was awarded. I've made a Freedom of Information request to see if it's the same man.

I'm copying the 1 Lincoln war diary myself in the next couple of weeks, as I'm collecting all Lincolns war diaries, citations, roll of honour, grave photos, etc, etc for a long term project.

Looks as though I was right about a possible Special Ops connection. I was hoping you might pop up with an answer Steven. What does F136 relate to? The service no you've quoted is the same one in the London Gazette I mentioned, so it's the correct man.

    Many thanks - Rob
