The British were always experimenting with "Special Forces". In August 1941, based on the success of the LRDG, it was decided to create 5 similar units more to be active in the deserts of Egypt, Libya and Syria.

One of them was a "Long Range Inteligence Patrol" suggested to GHQ by RAF Flight Officer Derek Rawnsley. He was permitted to operate in three trucks with Australian drivers, assisted by Lt. Commander Wilmott, Royal Navy and a Royal Engineers Survey Section demolitions officer, Lt. R. Leach. They trained for behind the line raids on enemy depots and dumps until October and carried out reconnaissance patrols and mapping for the impending major offensive, Operation Crusader, due to begin in November.

Is anything else known about them?
