I seem to have been locked out of my original account -no idea why. So I have signed on as a slightly different name so I can look the site and post. But I obviously can't access my messages....there was quite a lot of info there so any idea how I can get my old account back? Or send my old messages to my new account? Thank you

By the magic of website, or our own passing incompetence (much more likely) you appear to have been placed on the banned list.

1000 apologies! I have rectified this, I hope. Try your main account.

Thanks very much Von P . The problem now is that there is no private messaging facility and I appear to have lost all the messages exept for a few I had by chance saved. Or am I being very stupid? Advice please! I would like to see them again... Thank you

I've restored PM facility, but don't know if messages have been lost (I can't access messages from Admin).
So sorry about this - Currently combing logs to see what happened. Suspecting the auto-spam system has flagged you for some reason, but I have absolutely no idea why.

    Yep. Flagged as Spam.

I cannot, so far, find why in the logs though.

Spam Flagging quite brutal - I'm now going to lighten it a little - I see your posts have survived, which is a relief to me.

Yes all messages back, thanks very much. Worried about the spam thing though. I often use an ipad so could it have come from that. I know nothing!!!

    Phew!
Long as the messages returned then no harm done. Don't worry about it, it is as likely to have been a mis-click as anything.

TD, will have a shufti when I get home.

I have nothing from your registered email, TD.
Care to try again, or share here?

Direct email is ww2talk at gmail.com
(I will remove this in a few hours, or the internet will spot it and spam the S out of me...)

    Hi von P

The problem is that without changing any of my settings I have stopped receiving emails to my inbox for comments posted on threads that I have started or follow ?? - the only way since Wednesday last week I know that the threads I follow or have started have been added to, is to log in and check 'my content'

This is the basis of the message i sent via the 'contact us' at the bottom of the portal page and then selected 'Department' - other, which I assumed would be the best way of contact for this sort of problem.

No changes here to outgoing email settings.
Nothing in your junk email? Sometimes we get marked as spam.
I'll have a deeper look at settings when sat at a pooter.

Have you changed your e-mail account password? If so, this blocks notifications from WW2Talk to hand held devices... BlackBerry, iPhone, etc.

If I remember correctly, I sorted this very issue on my BlackBerry by going into 'Setup', 'Email Settings', 'Validate Password' and inserting my new password; you may need to do the same with your computer!

Hope this helps. Apologies if I am way off track...

    Best,

    Steve.

    Hi Steve,

No changes whatsoever, thats the problem. All was working fine last Wed, went away for 3 days to photo some headstones for spidge, have a look around Lorient and the submarine base, came home Sat, checked my emails and thought 'thats odd nothing from the forum' - logged on, went to 'my content' and found I had several topics that I follow updated but nothing sent to my inbox as it had 3 days before??

    :ewink:

    edited to add
The last Wed noted above would have been the 26th March - see also thread http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/52741-no-notifications/

    Yep, seen that.
The problem is, that the forum is firing out emails just as it should, and once those emails enter the vagaries of assorted ISPs, email providers, spam systems, devices and device settings, there is so little that I can do.
Even if other sites may work for someone, that means nothing in relation to here, and how those external factors see/handle our emails.

Shutting down my computer last night I noticed 2 notifications in my inbox from a thread I had added to, and the same this morning. So it seems they are arriving again now after a month of none :( :ewink:

I have not changes any settings on here or on my server, has the site had an update??

    Nope, no changes or upgrade.

The thing is that there are a dozen things that can change twixt us and you, often automatically, or at least with minimum notice,
From server provider, through ISPs, blacklists, whitelists, browsers and assorted other programs/apps/device settings, all of which can influence the way you interact with the interweb, or receive email.

One person'll get along fine, another won't - it has always been thus.

I like the phrase "... it has always been thus." It can cover the proverbial multitude of sins!
