    Afternoon all,

A colleague has asked me for advice about tracing a possible crash-site in Devonshire. This is miles away from my usual subjects and I cannot find anything obviously of use either here or elsewhere on the interweb. Is there an obvious starting point? All I have on the potential crash site is that it is supposed to be a B24 Liberator that came down in the area of Broadclyst (c SX 973 934) to the north-east of Exeter.

    Any help gratefully received!

    Hi Capt

A little more info would help, maybe a year?

Sorry Peter, but that is as much information as I have on this. I appreciate it is all rather sketchy but there it is.

    Capt,

The following is offered by a colleague on rafcommands. Hope this is a help.

B-24D 42-40438, VB-103 force landed in field 3miles NW of Broad Clyst, Devon after fuel exhaustion Dec 13, 1943. SOC, no fatalities.

Thank you Peter, I think that may well be the aircraft concerned. I suspect it is a case of one of the local legends that has grown in the telling and is still bandied about by older folk. Please pass on my thanks to your colleague.
