When you get into Nicholson's History of the Canadians in Italy, you will find that the post mortem of the Ortona battles were found to be too light for such a task

as 1st Div was NOT an assault Div and their Tank support of 4th British A Bde and 1st Cdn A bdes were the lighter Shermans which had great trouble in mud

etc…. so when Monty went off to the Uk - Leese ordered both 21st and 25th British Tnk bdes over from North Afirca as they were heavy mobs with Churchill

Tanks. We then trained with the 1st Cdn as an assault force at Lucera and 25th TB took them through the Hitler line and we in 21stTB took them all the way

through the Florence scam and the Gothic line- Senio - Ravenna et al until they finally left for Belgium in February '45

    It's great story ….

    Cheers
