    Hi all,

Has any one with an interest in the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment tracked the different Lincolnshire battalions to the end of the war? I'm quite confused by the wiki at the link below, because it hasn't done much to make it easy to distinguish between the movements of the different Lincolnshire Battalions during the second world war.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Lincolnshire_Regiment#Second_World_War

Second World War: Vist, Norway 1940, Dunkirk 1940, Normandy Landing, Cambes, Fontenay le Pesnil, Defence of Rauray, Caen, Orne, Bourguébus Ridge, Troarn, Nederrijn, Le Havre, Antwerp-Turnhout Canal, Venraij, Venlo Pocket, Rhineland, Hochwald, Lingen, Bremen, Arnhem 1945, North-West Europe 1940, '44–45, Sedjenane I, Mine de Sedjenane, Argoub Selah, North Africa 1943, Salerno, Vietri Pass, Capture of Naples, Cava di Terreni, Volturno Crossing, Garigliano Crossing, Monte Tuga, Gothic Line, Monte Gridolfo, Gemmano Ridge, Lamone Crossing, San Marino, Italy 1943–45, Donbaik, Point 201 (Arakan), North Arakan, Buthidaung, Ngakyedauk Pass, Ramree, Burma 1943–45

    http://www.lincstothepast.com/flag/474796.record?pt=S
German flag of the Hitler regime; red flag with black and white and swastika and iron cross in canton; taken from Bremen Airfield by Major (Maj) L.H.B. Colvin MC of the 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment

I was looking into their bit in Bremen at the end of the war and came across the link to the flag above from the airfield at Bremen - and imagined that there must be a story in that? as well as wondering if anyone had a prior interest into looking at their part in the Defence of Rauray?

I'm not sure how often they had dealings with the 8th Armoured Brigade, kind of like ships that pass in the night, but they have cropped up quite a few times now in the reports of the 24th L and the SRY so I thought I'd say hi!

    All the best,

    Rm.

I wouldn't rely on Wikipedia if I was you. Try and find other sources like the Lincs History by Major Gates or contact the regimental museum. I have a copy of the regimental history and don't mind doing the odd look up but listing all the battalions movements is a bit much for me.

    Couldn't agree more Drew :)

The wiki above seems to make a "stab" at giving it a go but then seems to have run away to hide behind the sofa :goodnight:

At some point I'll try to post what I find out about them at Rauray and Bremen in case that's of interest to anyone.

It would still be nice to find some connections to some with some links there though,

    All the best,

    Rm.

Ps. Thanks "Idler" - caught in mid-post! - I'll have a look at the link you've shown later today :)

Get yourself off to Kew to look at the war diaries of 2 & 4 Lincolns and don't bother with Wikipedia.

Make a list of all the unit connections you refer to in your numerous posts and look for it there. More fun and you'll find out more by doing it yourself.
