Just seen a 'Gustav' update on the BBC. Good luck David. It appears it will make landfall to the west of us however the eastern edge is always the more severe. Today I will start preparing for it and tomorrow (Sunday) I will put my hurricane boards up over the windows and doors.
Not that it'll lie ... love it, wonder what is it about snow that makes me feel like I am 10 again ... while the majority of grown-ups are thinking of heating costs and road conditionsl D
This made me immediately go to the window to check (hopefully) - a childish fixation for snow remains for me too, with a hint of adult grinning at the overreaction it can provoke here after a slushy inch or so. Occurs to me that my 4 & 7 year olds' still haven't really experienced 'proper' snow yet - the doom laden predictions for this winter seem quite promising that they may get the chance in the coming months, I hope so anyway!
Well the sun is out and the temps are on the up again. All we need is mist this evening and we'll have had the preverbial 4 seasons in one day. GH, Bet it blew the cobwebs away though ...need a trip down there myself again, perhaps I'll wait till the Spring ! Paul, France has too many compensations for me to feel too bad for you :p D

Yes it is also getting colder here in Berlin, but no snow yet. My first winter here was a little of a shock as one week it held steady at -15 to -17oC. Extremely cold, but when dry is better than a damp -1 or thereabouts! Yes snow is great when you do not have to drive in it! Regards Tom
Yes there's a little more of the extremes over on Continent. My aunt - near Duesseldorf - told me one day it was -10 the next day +13. Going out with the youngest to make some 'snow balls' before the hailstones melt ... D
It is supposed to be freezing here tonight, which is a bit early for frost around here, at least for the last 20 years or so. We don't usually get frost until way down in late November or early December and sometimes as late as January.
dbf- you call that "snow" - our local mountain has had feet of it for weeks - mind you it's 7500 feet high but it's on the way down to us at near sea level ! We usually call - 20 F coldish - then with the wind from the Arctic it really nose dives - 50 is not unheard off and we are in the warm part of Canada ! Cheers
And as usual - the Glenshane Pass is closed...together with some plonker stuck in it busy talking to Radio Ulster on a mobile - INSTEAD of driving out if it with his last few minutes' travelling! About five years ago I was getting a new tyre on the iron pony when a guy of mature years came in and asked the owner to check his tyres and pressures as he was going over the Glenshane later that day; the fear in his voice was noticable. The owner of the establishment looked at me - I was in those days doing Belfast to Derry and return FOUR TIMES a day on a motorcyle.
