A very worthwhile project, its odd how all of us pass war memorials everyday but never think to catalouge them for posterity.

Although work in progress at present it will be an great research tool for both military and geneloical purposes

Yes and when I've completed it I will give the info to Leeds city council so they can update their really sh@t page dedicated to the memorials in Leeds.

I've been thinking about doing this for ages so I'm glad someone else has taken it on. Good luck with it mate and feel free to use the Morley ones (pictures) I posted in dbf's thread on local war memorials. When its up and running I'll let you know if I come across any in Leeds not on their website. I drive past a few everyday in Leeds.

If they do not want your update then offer it to the people at Roll of Honour for their use.

Well done for starting what promises to be a quality thread. :)

Why not upload the info and then email the council suggesting that they post a link to your research? The memorial page admittedly isn't the greatest but to be fair to that council they have made all the absent voter lists for researchers into the Leeds soldiers of the Great War available in a searchable form.

It might come in handy if you research men of a particular memorial in the area?

Yeah, seen the absent voters list, it started as a project similar to mine, all the work done voluntarily I believe. I'll ask next time I'm at the library.
I'll tell the council when I've completed my research and get them to put a link to here.

    Ok, met my first hurdle.
As two men on the Bramhope memorial are buried in the local cemetery, I thought I'd nip up today and photograph the headstones, but could only find one.
The one I can't find is
William A Dobson Army Service Corps - I take he should have a commonwealth war grave headstone, the same as Arther Speight (attached) ?

Often you will find that they are on the CWGC roll but have a private headstone and as several members will tell you finding them is difficult.

On a personal note I searched for a grave/headstone for over a year, it had been renoved to be refurbished and have another family members nane engraved.

Moral is don't give up go back and have a look around when you get a chance.
