Under heavy shellfire he cleared many scattered mines with his men. Always showing great coolness and courage, he personally dealt with many booby traps and mines. It was his first time in action. When his Armd Car was blown up on a mine and under heavy shellfire he salved all his equipment and explosives, dug in his manned and looked after them. When a new car arrived, he loaded it up and continued his work of finding and locating minefields. At all times he showed the highest courage and leadership in this difficult task of neutralising enemy mines and booby traps by day and night under shellfire.
