Alber Harrison appears on a WW2 memorial at Aberdeen Harbour, unable to find any link to Aberdeen and why he is on the memorial. dies 23/4/45, possibly at Horsey Minefield, as his name crops up on the Norfolk memorial to Bomb Disposal. Doesn't appear to have been born in the area, and died in Norfolk. Son of Albert Victor and Alice Harrison, of Norwich; husband of Charlotte Jane Harrison, of Aylestone, Leicester. Anybody more info on his death, or why he's on an Aberdeen harbour memorial?
Morning, Army RoH states born in Norwich, http://media.freeola.com/other/5429/118december2003001.pdf says died at Horsey Regards, Graeme
As above - not much detail UK, Army Roll of Honour, 1939-1945 Name: Albert Harrison Given Initials: A H Rank: Lance Corporal Death Date: 23 Apr 1945 Number: 2118257 Birth Place: Norwich Residence: Norwich Branch at Enlistment: Other Corps Theatre of War: United Kingdom Regiment at Death: Royal Engineers Branch at Death: Other Corps You may need to check out Scottish records as they arent covered my Ancestry - at least not 'modern' records, or perhaps newpaper archives. This record may or may not br connected but is close, as he died in April, this death was registered in June England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007 Name: Albert H Harrison Death Age: 34 Birth Date: abt 1911 Registration Date: Jun 1945 Registration district: North Walsham Inferred County: Norfolk Volume: 4b Page: 43 Reading Graeme's document it says Albert was 35 so born around 1910 which sort of fits with the above. Still dont see the connection to Aberdeen though TD
Hi TD Nothing in Scottish records. Starting to wonder if its the right person. Will do some more digging
could be :- SapperHARRISON, ALBERT ERNEST Service Number 2013460 Died 02/03/1945 Aged 30 968 Port Maint. Coy. Royal Engineers Son of Edward Ernest and Mary Harrison. of Carlin How, Yorkshire. As the memorial name is at Aberdeen Harbour, this is the more likely guy.....

Are you sure you have the correct details - checking the memorial - it doesnt give a year of death just 1939 - 1945, so checking found this man UK, Army Roll of Honour, 1939-1945 Name: Alexander Harrison Given Initials: A Rank: Sapper Death Date: 25 Feb 1943 Number: 14211990 Birth Place: Aberdeen Residence: Aberdeen Branch at Enlistment: Other Corps Theatre of War: North Africa Regiment at Death: Royal Engineers TD Memorial details - Aberdeen Dock Labourers

Hi TD, many thanks for that. Was off on a tangent through incorrect info. I started to doubt A = Albert. Alexander Harrison was born 5th April 1909 (not 1910 as per earlier) Was married to Mary Ann (Tait) It appears he was a docker at Aberdeen Harbour between 1930 and 1939, and perhaps why he's with 1015 Docks Operating Company. I don;t suppose you know what the accident was?
Interesting Reference: WO 176/218 Description: GIBRALTAR: Royal Engineers: 1015 Docks Operation Company. Date: 1942 Oct.-1943 Mar. Held by: The National Archives, Kew Could ask drew or lee to copy that week for you TD
Aberdeen Press and Journal 10 March 1943 and Aberdeen Weekly Journal 11 March 1943 (FMP) Hope this helps Gus
Thanks Guys, I saw that cutting in the BNA, it most what the accident was is what I'm interested in. Regards Alan
