Hello, At this moment I researching 44 Sqdn Lancaster LM592,KM-Q piloted by P/O E.A.Canty(RAAF). His aircraft was shotdown outbound to a target at Wesseling on the 21/22 June 1944 and exploded with his bombload between the Dutch villages Riethoven and Valkenwaard. I know all about the crew ,flights and crashsite and I am in touch with the families of Sgt E.G.Scott midupper gunner and reargunner F/Sgt L.J.P.McCoy. I am eager to get in touch with the relatives of P/O Canty, Sgt E.Norris, F/O W.M.Crook, Sgt R.E.Clay and F/O J.R.Vowles. Further I would like to know what the Bombload was of LM592 and who was responsable for shooting down LM592 Schnaufer(IV/NJG1) or Uffz Scheve(4/NJG 3). Regards, Adrian
Hi Pete, Yes Pete, you are correct I just notice that on the loss card. Bit stupid of me!! It brings me onto a new question. As it shows on the loss card for LM592, only 1x 4000Lbs (Cookie) is unusual to me for a "full" bombload for a Lancaster. Maybe the 44 Sqdn records can shine a light on this?? Regards, Adrian
ND552, ND973, ME804 and LM434, also lost by 44 Squadron that night, had 1 x 4000 and 16 x 500 Regards Pete
Adrian, my Great Uncle is F/O J.R. Vowles. My brother has been researching about him whilst I researched another Great Uncle who flew A Lancaster in 57 Sqn. If you're still interested in contacting us that'd be great. Cheers, Luke
Hi Luke, It has been quite a while since i log in on this site and I was amazed to see that your great Uncle is F/O Vowles. Please excuse me for log in or contacting you sooner. Now it 's very important as next year on the 22nd June 2019 we will create a memorial close where LM592 crashed at Walik. In the meantime I have found information which i am more than pleased to share with you. Please if you would contacting me outside this site azantvoort@outlook.com Regards, Adrian
Hi Luke, My wife's great uncle was Louis Joseph McCoy, RAAF, the rear gunner on LM592 when it crashed in June 1944 near Riethoven. As you are related to officer Vowles it would be good to open a line of communication regarding the mutual interest. We intend visiting Riethoven for the memorial dedication in June 2019 and were wondering if any Australian relatives of officer Vowles might be attending. We are aware that relatives of officer Canty, the pilot, may also be attending. Rustyrooster
Hi Luke & RustyRooster, Edwin Albert Canty was my great uncle. My wife Michele and I will be attending the memorial on the 22nd at Reithoven. Look forward to meeting you there. Dave
