    Hi Phil,

Firstly apologies from the list I have it states 101586 - 150000 allotted for QMG3 for ME and captured, so that is probably why the numbers you listed were not picked up. A121370 appears in WHEELS AND TRACKS. If the other numbers that you list are from tracer cards please let me know and I will update my individual census number spreadsheet.

    cheers

    Cheers Kevin,
the numbers quoted are of those seen on the Preservation circuit , but do not appear in any lists of census numbers as being Ambulance
Now I am fully aware of the practice by a lot of owners of painting vehicles in fiction markings/numbers etc , but what makes these stand out is they have post war VRMs allocated to them, hence why I was wondering if the Ministry at the time took a block of numbers allocated to something else(Motorcycle i believe in this case, credit to a post on HMVF) or as is also possible the information regarding the post war VRM is by matching the VRM to the Chassis number and the census number worn is just made up to suit, That said its odd (to me anyway that 4 different owners choose numbers almost in sequence

No worries at all if the answers are not known I am grateful for what has been posted thus far

ps, showing my lack of knowledge, what does QMG3 for ME stand for

    Hi Phil,

There are literally hundreds of census number batches containing thousands of census numbers that are allocated to specific areas/countries/units. QMG3 for example is Quarter Master General 3 for Middle Eastern Forces, on the listing I have has 3 batches specific to QMG3 100586 - 101585, 101586 - 150000 ( incl captured) and 185581 - 185582 and there may have been more.
I have a couple of spreadsheets with over 50k census numbers of armoured and soft skins. I have compiled these from war time films and photos and war diaries along with those sent to me from other members and sources. I have always been reluctant to list the numbers from restored examples unless they have an official wartime reference.
Hopefully some other member may have lists of VRM's with the old census numbers that may show that within 101586 - 150000 there was a batch allocated to ambulances.

    Cheers

    Kevin
