    Tom,

Thanks for the heads up, will do,....can anyone recommend a good medal restoration person that they have used ?, i can search the net, but would much rather go on a personal recommendation from a good source.

As an aside, i've just had my mother round for tea and we got talking and to my surprise she recalled meeting my Uncle Frank for the first time (this would have been around 1946), he was in and around Berlin towards the end of the war and mentioned the POW camps and the terrible suffering he witnessed, he spared the details, but this means he would have bee part the allied advance across France/Holland/Germany.....so I've got lots of research to do. If he was with the KRRC then i could no worse than read up on them (i'm hoping that he would have remained with them through 44-45).

    The Regiment in Normandy
The first five months of 1944 were a period of intensive training for the three service battalions in England, the 2nd, 8th and 12th.
The 2nd Battalion, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel W. Heathcoat-Amory, landed with the 4th Armoured Brigade in Normandy on 7th June, with motor companies under the command of armoured regiments, each regiment supporting one of the three brigades of the 51st (Highland) Division. The Battalion was continually in action, mostly with motor companies under their armoured regiments, the Brigade supporting various infantry divisions in turn.

One last thing these photos, has any one got any thoughts on the dates they were taken..e.g using the reg no and types of lorry etc?

    Derrick,

This is an Austin. In military use it was a K9 but this one has civilian plates. It is an earth auger used for drilling holes for telegraph poles etc.

    Mike,

Thanks. Does it look like a ww2 date or is the reg date suggesting a much later date ?

    K9s were 1950s types.

Having slept on it I conclude that this is K9s big brother, the K4 series II Loadstar. Same period. Body is earth auger and pole setter. The civil plates suggest a trials vehicle. The uniforms seem military.

The K4 was used by Army and RAF. Also by fire brigades, Civil Defence.

    Hi All,

Its been a long time but here are some scans of Franks Service record ...there are many more pages but not for the period i'm interested in.... at the moment :-

I can't see an entry for June 6th 1943 for the RFN Wiltshire C F "60th" Regiment KRRC ...as per his handwritten note that was with his Regular Army Certificate of Service...

It shows that Frank was in the 815 (S) Coy on the 26th April 1944 ...I'm interested in where he was located at the time around D-Day ...Drew recommends looking at the War Diaries for the Pioneer Coy for the time period.

Also it shows in the Military History part that he was in "NWE" 17th May 1944- 7th Sept 1947 ...so I assume he would be in France/Germany for that time,

There are no entries in the Service Record between 26th April 1944 & 1946,,,

    Any thoughts guys

    Derrick
