I've made no secret of the fact that I am an Urban Explorer - or 'urbexer' as we are called. The name of the game basically is to photograph and report on dereliction worlwide. Capt. Bill; I'd never come across it before that ye were an 'Explorer! Mate of mine and I are into a bit of that. Though, round here, it tends to me more 'Rural Exploration'. We've done some great cottages and such. Got a Work House lined up
Interesting. Part of that tunnel was open in the 70s - no idea why - as I remember going down into it with my dad.

Wait a sec....that tunnel.... Is that the one Patrick McGoohan drives down in his Lotus KAR120C in the starting credits to The Prisoner....and is in (the excreble film version of) The Avengers???
Phylo The southern part of the Kingsway Tunnel is still open to traffic, but now called the Strand underpass,this I think is the part of the tunnel used in the programmes, Rob A301 Strand Underpass exit ramp The A301 Strand Underpass allows northbound traffic from Waterloo Bridge heading for the A4200 Kingsway to avoid the Strand and Aldwych. There is no equivalent southbound facility. The underpass utilizes the former Kingsway tram subway which closed for tram use in 1952. The tram subway was converted, and the underpass was constructed, by John Mowlem & Co and opened in 1964. This is the exit Waterloo Bridge Southern Entrance;
If you like dereliction photos you should have a look here: Home Page It's not the best layed out website in the world, but it's got soem fascinating stuff. I particularly enjoyed the tube stations, hospital/asylums and cemeteries.
Ah yes - I'd forgotten about that! Been ages since it was on telly. Roughly based Dance's character's "recollections" of the reactor fire at Calder Hall and its side effects, which was just coming into public consciousness when it was made...
