Don't forget to have a great time, keep a diary and tell us all about the trip. Especially interested in the cemetery of your great uncle and would love to see a photo! It is coincidental that there are (3) RAAF boys in the same cemetery. Cheers Geoff
St Pierre-sur-Dives was liberated 16th August 1944 by 5th Camerons. The Bridge over the river Dives had been blown and the town was shelled and mortared at intervals throughout the day. About 50 Prisoners were taken. It was at St Pierre, that 5th Camerons were first greeted as "Liberators". Would appreciate a pic of the Bridge and the Town sign if Possible, for use on my website.
51 Highland, It will be a pleasure....... I would love an ariel photograph of the area in July of the town any ideas anyone? Lee
Hi guys back safe and sound and we have had the best holiday we have ever had... And I have some startling news not to mention downright creepy and loads of photos... as soon as I get my laptop sorted and link it to my desk pc I will upload the pics.... Spidge your going to be a happy bunny mate.... 51highland, got the pics you wanted as soon as I can I will post them Lee
Welcome back Lee. Don't tell the kids you had the best ever time as they may get a complex. Look forward to the results and all the goss! Cheers Geoff
Hi heres the first of many photos and an idea at what me and my lovely wife of 23 years Kimberley have been upto over the past week in France on holiday as promised I'll post as many as I can every evening but am really flat out at work at the moment so don't get in till late.... Well we started out from Coulsdon Surrey where we live and headed for the docks to one of them dilapidated piles they call luxury ferries at P&O for the 5.50am sailing and as per usual we left 15 minutes late so instead of a 60mph cruise I had to hustle the BMW down the M25-M26-M20 at naughty speeds good job the old girl is well looked after as the bavarian 528i SE barge hit its max fully loaded on the straight sections with no traffic around at 4 am which is a good job cos mr plod would have thrown the book at me After a very smooth crossing and the wife still managing to feel ill we got into Calais at about 9am french time and headed to our normal first stop to stock up on groceries for the evening meal and out picnic at the lovely services at Bay de Somme ( a lesson here to be learned by our services ) we enjoyed our picnic sitting on the grass looking at the Carp and the ducks in this wonderful nature reserve looking out on the marshes...... We then headed south into Rouen and headed down the A roads to avoid the tolls and the motorway hubbub......and down to St Pierre Sur Dives Cue first photos for 51Highland More to follow later Bet spidge is getting flustered It'll be worth mate I promise
Can we have some captions for the photos , please. Rgards your comments on P&O, I only cross the Channel with Norfolkline, I won't use anyone else now. Dover-Dunkerque maybe longer but it's a better voyage. We always sit on the end of the big curved settee looking out the huge window at the front.
Owen I hope with a large glass of something as well! We always go by tunnel, more expensive but quicker, but oh i miss my fry up! I can't wait for the 'creepy bit' Regards to all Andy
To be honest Lee, I don't know. I know that before posting one can shuffle the bracketed attachment numbers and write between them, but once uploaded in a block like that they seem to be impervious to editing. Sorry that's not much help, I'll have a look at the settings and see if there's an option that simplifies things. Cheers, Adam.
Thanks Adam, I will try that but failing I will load pictures then add simple block of 1-10 etc of text for each photo after Lee
Lee, How about having a Photobucket account, paste in the IMG code & then put a description underneath the image. Just a thought. Andy, I hope with a large glass of something as well! er... just a cuppa, I'm driving.
Scary some philipino woman has used my email address how can that happen she seems genuine enough with pick of her kids and her family etc........ Surely she would have to verify her account with the email Any others I could try apart from photobucket?
O well in the mean time! We arrived in St Pierre at around 3-30pm and set about taking the photos I have already posted Photo 1) The original crossing which used to be the main route into the village from the west Route de Caen 2) Kimberley posing on the bridge.......facing towards Falaise 3) view toward the direction of Thieville & Bretteville sur dives 4 & 5) Random pics of the plains of Caen 6-7-8 & 9) the route de Caen and various buildings and to me what makes France so lovely the buildings.........God I'll be looking at churches soon 10 & 11 ) The church in St Pierre look at that architecture:p PASS ME THE PIPE AND SLIPPERS
After the pics we retired for a nice quite meal in the solitude of the La Cote just out side the main town about 3km for our evening meal of steak & salad and a nice bottle of wine for the wife ( I'm a tart and don't drink ) and then to watch the sunset which is beautiful from the location of being perched on the hillside anyone having been to Mont-Ormel would know what the view is like....heres a pic of the farm house More tomorrow night night all
