Mentioned him earlier in this thread. I have made contact with his family in Australia and have photos!! He hated the name Noel and used to call himself Bill.

Have just posted photos in this thread: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/war-air/26721-james-e-linehan-mia-1942-a-12.html

Just found these Aussies that were in other Air Forces thanks to Geoff's search engine.

GOOD , EDGAR ANDREW Squadron Leader C/18640 280sq RAF 13/11/1943 29 Royal Canadian Air Force Canadian HOUGHTON (ST. MARTIN) CHURCHYARD UK Norfolk

According to RCAF Casualty List #738, issued 21 November 1943, S/Ldr Edgar Andrew Good, born 6 February 1914, hailed from Valois, Quebec.

I can only assume the Aussie connection listed on the CGWC pertains to his parents, stepfather and wife. His "C" service number also denotes pre WWII experience in the RCAF.

    Thanks Alieneyes - Great info.

The info below is more interesting. One for the Gen groups.

    This from:
Aircraft accidents on the North Yorkshire Moors

Pilot - S/Ldr Edgar Andrew Good RCAF (C/18640), aged 29, of North Adelaide, South Australia. Buried St Martin's Church, Houghton Hall, Norfolk. Son of Nickolai Andreyev and Nina Andreyevna. Step-son of Joseph Good and husband of Elaine Good of North Adelaide, South Australia.

Sdqn Ldr Good's gravestone at Houghton Hall, Norfolk. The life of the pilot Edgar Good needs researching. A photographer Nikolai Platonovich Andreev (1882 - 1947) and an artist Nikolai Andreyevich Andreyev (1889-1938) were both Russians of some note. As it stands at the moment I assume he was a son of one of them. If he was, why did a Russian go to Australia (probably escaping the regime), then somehow found his way to Canada to sign up in the RCAF, then end up in the UK and finally be laid to rest in the grounds of a stately home in Norfolk - the home of the first British Prime Minister. The other members of his crew had the same nationality but were buried as usual in the wargraves plot at Harrogate.

The research could be incorrect according to your info above however there are questions that could be interesting to probe.

    Cheers

Had I known about this man a few months ago I could have pulled his service file in Ottawa and we would have known for sure. The Casualty Lists are pretty accurate. In some cases I found men listed as being from, for example, the Bahamas but when I pulled the file he was only stationed there. So definite errors are out there. The information I posted comes from a) the numbered RCAF Casualty list (they also list other air force trainees lost in accidents in Canada as well as Canadians in the RAF and b) Library and Archives Canada databases.

One of the things I've learned over the years is that the CWGC site lists the residence of the serviceman's family, not necessarily him. I know of a case of a lost RAF man, parents are listed on CWGC with a Burmese address. The man himself had no connection to Burma.

Good would be an interesting case to research and certainly not the first I have of Canadians of Russian extraction flying. Having his date of birth puts him as a 7 year old during the Russian Civil War. What made me look him up was why the need for an Aussie to go to Canada to enlist?

I am currently researching those listed as Canadian on CWGC who have no next of kin address. Ever heard of Nicaraguan pilots or Cuban gunners? They existed. How some of them made it to Canada to enlist is as interesting as some of their flying adventures during operations.

    Cheers

P/O Morse mentioned elsewhere here was Australian but had a New Zealand fiancee and seems to have joined up there in the RNZAF because of it, could be the same thing.

    Hi Alieneyes,

By your research, there seems no doubt that he was born in Canada and was flying in Canada at some stage.

My interest initially was RAAF Australians that died. Further research showed that there were a couple of hundred who enlisted and died in the RAF being in England from the 20's/30's or were not accepted by the RAAF in Australia, paid their own fare to Britain aboard ship and enlisted in the RAF. All are listed as UK on the CWGC.

Also those with an Australian connection.

    Cheers

    Geoff
