Thanks for the link, haven't played them in ages. And one of the better anti-racist, anti-fascist, anti-injustice bands. Wish I could find my copy of From Here To Eternity, best CD they ever released. It's in a drive somewhere on the planet, I have the empty case.

    Quite.

Just watching this video of the Manics & saw James is wearing a bomb disposal badge (& some other badges) & Nicky has some dodgey gongs.
Reminded me of this old thread,
    :P

He was Keith Emerson's roadie and used to supply him with hitler youth daggers that were pushed into his Hammond C3 organ keyboard to hold the notes down. The bloke who regularly had to repair the C3 eventually refused to do it when he found out. It's only Rock and Roll.
I thought Lemmie's 1916 was more serious than fun. Probably knows his stuff. Hope he's recovering now from his health issue.

With all that equipment and all those medals they should be in the front line in the next war (God forbid there should be one.)
Seriously, would I be able to wear my Dad's medals when going to the commemorations at the war memorial?

It is done, sort of unofficially acceptable. Wear them on your right.

Wearing "non entitled" medals doesn't seem quite right and unless you're a kid seems a bit stupid ..but I do remember seeing The Clash on 30/4/78 in Victoria Park at the end of a march against the NF so I'll give him a partial pass... can't speak for my Dad though.

Slightly varying the topic, but as we are on a "rock" music theme although I've heard him speak many times about his Dad, I've never seen Roger Waters wear his medals.

i opened my copy of the Times this morning and kept turning page after page until I found what I was looking for.

    I eventually got there.

On Page 26 under the heading "On this day"

In 1939 Britain & France declared war on Germany.

    Nine words ...................

I'm surprised they manage to give the news item so much space

    Ron

    Ps
I have already posted this item on a "It happened today " thread but now realise it should rightfully have been posted here !

Probably not likely to either, reading the lyrics of When The Tigers Broke Free. Strong stuff.

    Geoff501...way off topic But

Your location reminds me of my late wife's favourite joke......An Irishwoman Mrs Dunn bumps into a neighbour who is on his way to London..so she asks him to look up her son who lives in London WC2...so he arrives in London and

asks a policeman where he can find WC2.. the policeman points him downstairs where he would find all the WC's......The Irishman hammers on the door of WC2....and the incumbent yells out....the Irishman then asks " are you Dunn" to the

response of " yus Mate "...the Irishman then follows up with " then why don't your write home to your Mother "......my wife would then go into hysterics

    Cheers

Quite a number of references to Roger Waters father through out his extensive collection of melodies....I can think of one or two in The Wall album alone....

    Another brick in the wall....

    Daddy's flown across the ocean
    Leaving just a memory
    Snapshot in the family album
Daddy what else did you leave for me?
Daddy, what'd'ja leave behind for me?!?
All in all it was just a brick in the wall.
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall.

    Jacksun.

Also the track "When the Tigers broke free", which was in the original stage show, but did not make it onto the double album, along with a few others due to lack of space.
