This is a long shot, I'm looking for any information regarding my great grandfather John Edward Wittcomb, he served as a Grenadier during the war, he survived and went on to lead a long life, he is from Portsmouth, although, he discarded all medals and anything that reminded him of the service.
So, due to that fact I have little information about his time during active service, or even his service as a guard at the palace.
I am unsure about what Battalion he was in, and I have limited travel and finances which prevents me seeking the necessary information I am looking for.

So on that note, I ask, if anyone here has came across ANY information at all regarding my late great grandfather please do contact me!
Or if anyone has contacts or better accessibility to documents, anything would be appreciated!

I also have some photographs which I shall try to attach here :)

Thank you for taking your time reading this.

Hi and welcome to the forum-All you need is £30 and you can apply for a copy of his service records from the Guards at Wellington Barracks. These will tell you what Battalion(s) he served with.

    Cheers

May I add - great first posts!

Actually providing his full name and all details you know up front (you would be surprised with how many ask for help yet won't provide even the most basic details with which to commence searching).

Ditto with the photos - I know sweet FA about the G Guards, but some of the people here are experts and might spot a detail in the uniform being worn that leads to more assistance.

You even placed the request in the most logical sub-forum with a heading that makes sense.

    I am impressed.

In short, welcome & good luck

    Dave

@Drew5233 I shall be doing that when I have the funds to do so, Thanks.

@ DaveB Cheers, hopefully someone here will spot this and possibly have useful information or even pictures!
Any photographs of him will be unbelievably appreciated!

Also, how do I go about finding personal details, such as Army medical records, and records of achievements aka medals and such forth?
I know he had some injuries during battle which I believe were back injuries of which he had surgery on? I'm not entirely sure of the details.

Also, the first photograph in my set in this thread is actually on a postcard and was dated 1941 July.
