Regret to announce I heard recently that he died last week.

    RIP Joe.

For those people that have the tour guide from last September he contributed a few words as an introduction.....

Also on 16th January Owen McClory of the 11th Parachute Battalion.

Not had a chance to look in Arnhem Their Final Battle to see what he did.....

    RIP Owen.

    Hi guys

Not my usual thread, but was that Joe Smith who was later an officer in 3 Para in the 50s maybe 60s? I have been in occasional contact with that one since my father (ex 6 Airborne Armd Recce Regt, HQ 6 Airborne Div, 3 Para, LAW at the War Office, and AATDC) died some years ago.

Chris, It is possible but possibly unlikely...Joe given an 'immediate commission' after Arnhem and posted to the 2nd Btn but he seems to have become a teacher in the early years after the end of the fighting.......

Joe Smith was recently added on to Para Data - it refers to him being transferred to the Lancashire Fusiliers and later the Royal Army Pay Corps, but there is no reference to 3 Para , so I think perhaps not

I stand corrected. It's just a cunning plan to see how many group photographs I can entice you in to posting on this thread! Your supply seems inexhaustable.:)
    Many thanks.
