Hi - I am researching Jack Roberts for his daughter, who is now elderly. Someone has helped me find out his service number 543308. He was not in WW2 but enlisted in the Royal Tank Corp in 1924 but was discharged on the 1/1/1929 and the reason given was "TA regs" apparently. Can anyone tell me what this means please?. His daughter would like to know if he was discharged because of medical reasons as several members of the family had TB and she now herself has a "lung" condition and would like to know if her Father did too so she can tell her consultant. Can anyone help please?
Hi, I’m afraid there is no quick solution to the elderly ladies dilemma. The answer to her queries should be in the service record but that can only be provided by UK MOD by following the instructions in this link. The current waiting time is in the region of a year. Request records of deceased service personnel MOD do not routinely provide medical information and the applicant would likely have to make a separate and compelling case before it would be released. It may even have been culled from the file after almost 100 years. Steve
Thank you Steve - it was worth asking ! Do you know what TA regs means at all? He may not have left for medical reasons at all? Or if there is any way of learning about his time in the military ?
Queries numbered above for ease of response below - 1. Army had a book of rules some of which covered the reasons for a man’s discharge - could be various reasons. The record likely quoted a Numbered Paragraph of TA Regs (Territorial Army Regulations). 2. You need to see his record 3. You need to see his record Steve EDIT TO ADD You may want to post on this topic - TA Regulations 1929 - paras 207 and 204
If the objective is to find out if Jack had TB would it not be an idea to obtain his death certificate, there is a chance it could be mentioned?
