I don't think this has been posted on here yet. A lot of Arnhem related material is now posted on another forum with many members on here participating. Recently Johnny Peters has passed away unexpectedly and also Glider Pilot Jack Bruce has suffered a major medical problem. ? as to the long term outcome for him. These were / are two of the nicest and modest men one could meet. Johnny Peters is often seen pictured in a very well known survivor press photo of the Arnhem operation. Jack Bruce is also in a photo that is or was shown in the Hartenstein museum at his capture. Like many veterans they quietly went about relating to others what happened to them during the war. They also returned to Holland and France many, many times. Here they both are pictured at Colchester Garrison family day in 2010. The chap kneeling down talking to Jonny is 'Lofty1' on here, a long time friend of both men. Because of his friendship with many local Arnhem veterans I was able to meet both of these wonderful characters numerous times. A privilege indeed.
Jack Bruce, rest in peace. Another one of a special generation has left us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG2VvXLhoyc
A few images of Jack Bruce's funeral. Members of todays Army Air Corps were in attendance, and several veterans.
Stan50 - Can I post a copy of this letter on a Facebook group that I am a member of please Thanks Andy
Jack Bruce, in his own words a summing up of his military career: http://www.cwgc.org/media/38066/jack_bruce.pdf Jack once mentioned in conversation that they were more scared of their Russian liberators than the Germans. They were unpredictable. Also, anyone who says they're hungry doesn't know what hunger is until they'd been a POW for any length of time.
