For quite some time I have been trying to find the descendants of the OC of "C" Company, I recieved an e-mail out of the blue from his grandson and was able to construct this JBMennie I also found out about another member of the Home Guard in Newcastle and have decided to expand my research to include all the Battalions around Newcastle. Great first hand account, wish we could see more like this here. I am sure there are many WW1 veterans who served in Home Guard in WW2 who have never spoken about their experiences in both conflicts. I would like to hear their stories. My particular research (at the moment) is Hornchurch/Essex Home Guard, any assistance there? Membership Sec of local RBL has advised that some Home Guard veterans would have listed their service in HG as Essex Regt, and therefore difficult to trace through the the usual regimental system. Was this common? Regards, Mike
I suppose you've tried looking at a copy of The Home Guard List, Volume 1: Eastern Command - Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Huntingdonshire, Isle of Ely, Norfolk, Suffolk, 86 pages (ISBN 1 902366 22 0)
