Started to make an index of these, don't think there is one and the tool tip pop-ups were not easy to run through.

They say they will upload more every week until 2014, so unless something better comes along, I may update my list and add deeper linking... ho hum.

"We will be uploading new images to Faces of the First World War every weekday between now and the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the war in August 2014."

Yes please Geoff. It would make things a lot quicker. I'm sure there will be people who won't be able to check the photos as often as every weekday so a list will be invaluable.

Just seen a tweet from the IWM that the Faces page has had 1.5 million hits in the first day and a half. Looks like you might have quite an audience for those lists Geoff! :)

The Centenary Wall is going a little slowly, under 6,000 so far.

    A good, worthwhile, project.

Looking at the apparent random order of the faces and with nearly 887,000 British (alone) armed forces deaths during WWI, finding the faces you are hoping to see may be difficult. Does anyone know if there be a facilty to search by name (at least)?

    Best,

    Steve.

    Steve,

That's a main objective of my little effort - unless they come up with something better! I'll get a alphabetical list running soon that will be updated as new pages are added (I hope!)

Does anyone know how many images they hold?

The database is coming along very nicely, Geoff. Great work. It's also nice to see the genuinely appreciative tweets from the IWM to you. :)

IWM are still adding photos. The first link in post #1 is now dead, the main index page is here:

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/imperialwarmuseum/sets/

I gave up indexing these in 2012 after they (flickr) changed the html format (twice) and made my page scraper break.
Usual problem, if it ain't broke, then fix it. shame really, but don't have more free time for hacking.

(there was also a hidden advert for a software engineer embedded in one of the pages, perhaps I was being head hunted :) )
