Great Interesting range of still cameras. Do you know how cameras were selected/allocated to photographers?
It was what was available and what they had trained on, De Vry and Eyemo 35mm cine cameras were common, De Vry not being popular. AFPU cameramen always seem to be envious of German cameras like the Arriflex.
Thanks for posting. That's a great post highlighting the work of the AFPU cameramen, a lot of whom lost their lives in the war. I read Whicker's War a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Alan, who was another AFPU cameraman (Army Film and Punishment Unit as it was known!), was there with the troops landing on Sicily and his war continued up through Italy to Venice. Lesley
My question was about the STILL cameras. I used to be a camera collector and at least two examples of the types shown are still in my collection. It almost looks like 'what the photographer liked'
It was what was available Rolleifex and Super Ikontas for stills cameras as well as kodak medalist, voightlander bessa, ensign commando, kodak, zeiss contax, leica.
