Hello all, this is my first post on this site so bear with me I was wondering if any of you could identify an item sent to me from a friend...he was wondering what it was, and im unsure. If anyone can and reveal its use it would be greatly appreciated. Original pictures of it would be amazing if possible. Pictures are attatched and have also attempted to upload images Thanks in advance janwilder (Ian) http://img571.imageshack.us/i/dsc01267v.jpg/http://img827.imageshack.us/i/dsc01268x.jpg/
It does what it says on the tin: a illuminant (parachute flare) for a 2 inch mortar. Post-war if 67 is the year.
Hey guys thanks for welcome...collecting is something im looking into more so now. As of yet i have nothing is there anywhere on here to view others collections? (very interested in seeing others collections). After telling friends of my interest in collecting he sent me this picture of para flare he saw in some antique shop...although as idler said its post war but is it worth getting it? Just thought it looks pretty quirky. Not sure how much it is...any suggestions
welcome to the forum have a look at this link http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/ww2-militaria-collecting/ also please view this link below from WW2talk Admin http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/weapons-technology-equipment/18440-found-ordnance-serious-bit.html
Frankly - I wouldn't have that thing anywhere near my house ..... Cheers Due to it being dangerous or just not worth it? Thanks
a 40 odd year old munition with a Magnesium flare in your home or shop next to your Family or favourite collection of expensive militaria ..... mmmm ...might just negate your Insurance policy ... get shut quickly . hand it into the cop shop and tell them your dog brought it back after throwing it a stick
Welcome to the forum. Just to clarify, if it still contains the fill then It should be destroyed by a competent person (Bomb trained) you can report it through the police, but place in a location where it won't do any damage if it were to ignite as it will be a low priority, it could take a couple of days for them to come round and take it away If it's expended and there is no fill then it's safe as houses and can be added to your collection
Jan - as others have agreed with me - I can say no more - munitions should be left on a battlefield for experts to neutralise - too many people have been injured by these things when children start to hammer them and they explode - then owners say "oh I didn't think they were dangerous - DUH " so don't even think about buying any of those things - collect butterfly's -stamps - they won't hurt you ! Cheers
