Went back to have another look at my own copy. I have to confess that it's literally falling to bits due entirely to the fact that I have taken so many scans from it in the past and every time you attempt to lay the pages flat for scanning the bindings suffer enormously. Thank g-d for sellotape ! Not over worried, it has more than served it's original purpose which was to aid both my own research and occasionally help other folk in their own quests.
£392.65? Pah! AbeBooks: AbeBooks’ Top 10 Most Expensive Sales in February 2011 AbeBooks: Most Expensive Sales
Beat this: Amazon’s $23,698,655.93 book about flies Interesting about the auto price adjustment. Not surprising, but interesting...
I checked on Amazon and did a message to Ron , poking a little fun at the insane price quoted on Amazon and now see that it has been "updated" on the thread. I think most of us have "paid dear" once in a while for the odd book or two, and at the moment I am toying with ordering the "Monte C." book from ATB but £300 plus for a paperback will never be happening-I wonder who sets the prices ? £209 is "expensive" but £323 a difference of £100 + is not even close.
This book may have imperfections such as missing or blurred pages, poor pictures, errant marks, etc. that were either part of the original artifact, or were introduced by the scanning process. Brand NEW, Print on Demand, takes 4-10 days for printing, UK/Europe Delivery (inc printing time) typically 14-22 days Amazon.co.uk: Used and New: Attack: A Study of Blitzkrieg Tactics
Praise be to Abe... Attack A Study of Blitzkrieg Tactics - AbeBooks Aside from the odd chancer & genuine rarity, my guess is that a lot of those really loopy Amazon prices are down to automatic updaters being left unattended. Either that, or there really are some stupid customers in the world.

By the way, gang, it never hurts to call up the seller (assuming it's a store) and make them a reasonable offer. Getting half price today is better than waiting 20 years and never selling the thing... I've done it, and it often works. Marc
After reading this thread I dug out my copy of "The Barrel-Land Dance Hall Rangers" by Anders Kjar Arnbal It is inscribed by the author. I was riding a motorcycle way up in the North Georgia mountains in 1998 when I stopped at an overlook next to a guy leaning on a Cadillac. I started talking to him and darned if WWII didn't come up. I think he might have had a Ranger baseball hat on but I can't remember. Anyway, he asked me if I wanted a copy of a book he had written. He wrote in it: May 29th '98 To Dave We met on a N. GA mountain road, like so many mountain roads we marched on - Algeria, Tunisia, Sicily & Italy. Til we meet again! Sincerely Andres K Arnbal Amazon has used copies for $117 dollars to $227. I'm not interested in selling it but it was fun looking. Sadly, here is his obituary from 2002 OnlineAthens: Obituaries: Anders K. Arnbal 05/17/02
Dear Dave, I trained on the USS DE Snowden back in 1965. A couple months ago on another site I saw someone signed off with USS Snowden after his name. John had served on the USS Snowden in WWII and together with their group they sank or captured several U-boats during the war. Both his wife and daughter have passed away from cancer and he is going that way too now. John insisted on sending me his DE Snowden cigarette lighter (he quit years ago but it has the USS Snowden on the case) and a photo of him on the Snowden and a Reunion photo. The Snowden was sunk some years ago and we both knew this. I never guessed I would meet some one who served on her during WWII.
Hallelujah !!!!! I was just browsing the internet to see the latest gen on "On Wings of War" and spotted that Amazon were selling a copy for only £12 !!!!!! I rushed to buy it and then went back to Amazon and see that they are now out of stock again. The "new copy", when received, will act as back-up to my original copy which has virtually disintegrated because of the hundreds of times I have folded it whilst making scans for others. Ron
Well done Ron. I am in exactly the same position with my 1945 edition of Beyond the Chindwin, by Bernard Fergusson. No real problems in replacing it, but the book has become very precious and so integral to my research. Best wishes Steve
Further to my recent purchase of another copy of "On Wings of War" on Amazon, this has now arrived and it is in near mint condition ! When you realise that I have previously seen this book offered online at prices in excess of £250 you will appreciate that I can't help feeling that this has been my lucky day Ron
"Wings of War"..I note that P M Otter (now that's a good Lincolnshire surname) has penned a good review of this publication....I think that would be Patrick Otter,a Grimsby journalist who worked for the Grimsby Telegraph. He is author of a few Bomber Command publications, localised on No 1 Group...Maximum Effort, One Group at War; Maximum Effort 111, The Untold Stories and Yorkshire Airfields in the the Second World War. His association is with Bomber Command is that his father, a Navigator on No 9 Squadron was lost on a raid to Berlin 6 months before he was born. Pleasing to see Ron (Post # 34) as a brown job, using the term Gen.....wots happened to griff .....
Harry I'm trusting that referring to me as a "brown job" meant I was an ex-Army type rather than someone of a "brown-nosed" variety Nice to see that you are still posting ! Best regards Ron
Of course Ron....a "brown job" and no other meaning. Posting..discussing history whatever dimension, is forever infinite. Best Wishes as ever.
