Putting aside reasons for not repeating, etc for a moment - I don't think I ever really liked It Ain't Half Hot Mum. At the time I probably watched it cos little else was on: I wouldn't go out of my way now to put on an episode and we have well-worn Dad's Army box set.

Rising Damp and Till Death us do Part are a couple of other examples where the characters spouting unpalatable viewpoints were the ones actually being mocked. Am I dying to see them? Not really.

So many things 'of their time' were never intended to be lasting and weren't saved for repeats, that I wonder why the fuss about this series. On the other side of the coin when I catch any of the versions of Dr Who (and I loved the show I was a kid), I find myself wishing it had stayed on some dusty archive shelf.

We watched it and I still know the words to the song. Don't want to watch it again either though but Bamboo's post made me laugh. I can just imagine someone sitting in archives going through a checklist of current no-nos.

I must agree with Mr. Dbf.

Something like this show has had it's day and gone. Not unsung, and it was a funny show. Micheal bates provided some of the funniest moments. But it's history now.

Reminds me a little of a journalist that berated John Lennon once for "breaking up the Beatles". John shot back, "Why are you so hung up on the Beatles, anyway? You've got the f**king albums. You can listen to them any time you want!"

Next thing to go will be Carla Lane's series 'Bread' for portraying Liverpudlians as welfare dependant, self obsessed scouse people with unintelligable mannerisms and accents. This is the politically correct Age; anything can be targetted on the strength of a single complaint.

    Loads of clips on YouTube.

It's a shame that the BBC won't screen the shows' anymore. In one of today's national newspapers it quotes that David Croft, the writer of 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum' as saying the same thing.

Indeed, it's very sad news that Windsor Davies has passed away. He was right for the part and gave us all a chuckle.

My grandfather (the ex-gunner) used to love Ain't Half Hot Mum and had a few records by Don Estelle.

I certainly watched the series as repeats in the 80s, but 'Allo 'Allo, Hi-Di-Hi and (of course) Dad's Army were more appealing to me at the time. I rewatched some 'Allo 'Allo a few years back and--perhaps partially owing to nostalgia--quite enjoyed the first two series, although the writing tailed off a bit after that.

Hi-Di-Hi I've never rewatched, but can anything that spawned a moment of Grand Guignol such as this be wholly bad?

Used to so look forward to it as a kid (remember watching programmes when they were on, once a week? Weird), even saw him in the stage show, I think at Scarborough, (and yes, they did sing Whispering Grass).
Coincidentally been laughing at several episodes on YouTube recently & was thinking I might get the box set as it's unlikely to ever be allowed back by any other method... Assume that's doubled from its very reasonable price for the next month or two.

    Well-played, Mr Davies.
Not only making people laugh, but an internet meme & 'singing' star too.

    Nostalgia, or Maria?

Dads' Army and Hi-De-Hi had the advantage that their 'situations' weren't as restrictive as the other ones so a wider variety of stories could be told.

    But, yes, RIP BSM Williams.

Yes, that character brings back distinct memories.
