    Hi

I would be very grateful if anyone could confirm whether this is a canadian soldier and if so can you make out the regiment from the cap badge?

I am trying to help his son's family (who is holding and who has since passed away) find out what the name of his father was.

This picture is the only clue and that possibly either his first name or surname is Mackie or Mackay.

We believe he would have served near St Neots, Cambs as that is where he met the boys mother.

The dob of the baby is in 1941.

    Thank you

PS There was a problem uploading the images but if you click on them the picture does enlarge.

    Tom,

No rank badges are visible on the shoulder straps so presumably he is an Other Rank. In this case I would say the uniform is Canadian. British uniforms were not of such good quality and were not worn with a collar and tie for Other Ranks.

Thanks very much for your help, I have now sent an email to the RCOC association to see if they can shed anymore light on who he is.

The red patch would indicate Canadian 1st Division

    He's Canadian alright.

The embroidery on his Divisional badge could signify he was in any one of the 5 overseas divisions:

    1st Infantry Division - Red
2nd Infantry Division - Royal Blue
3rd Infantry Division - French Grey
4th Armoured Division - Forest Green
    5th Armoured Division - Maroon

Sadly, the argument about Canadian BD being miles better than British is overplayed in many cases.
