  1. Is it just me or does anyone else find the TV Puesdo News Reports on D Day Nauseating?Am I just being a "Grumpy Old G*t"?but I find the Dumbing down of history to supposedly appeal to the Masses by converting everything to a PC Game, derogatory,I yearn for the days of Brian Aldis & "All Our Yesterdays" ;"The Great War" or "The World @ War" & the like, when History was well presented Factual & made Me @ least want to know more!I must be getting Old,but history today seems to be a series of "SoundBytes"
Ah well back to my Cave! o_O

No it isn't just you,i'm with you on this one.I have refused to watch these "Puesdo" news reports on D-Day.

The best commemorative news items, have been from the Reprinted Newspapers that one of the Dailies are giving away. But to be honest i havn't even bought them.I have preferred to listen to what the veterans themselves have had to say and have left it at that.

I agree with your comments on how history seems to be treated these days, certainly has changed since i was at school and not for the better either.

I have just been watching on the Midlands Today News review of the week.About Two D-Day Veterans visiting their local Primary School to talk about their experiences.A wonderful way to teach history, but i suspect the exception rather than the rule.

The one man concerned was Ron Picken and he landed with the first wave of Special Services Comando's on Sword Beach. He comes from Wolverhampton and only does his talks in Schools if he is asked.

The BBC also did pseudo news reports back in 1994 and I still have an episode on tape with Sue Lawley as the presenter, so nothing new. Not to be taken too seriously, I think.

Today's Observer reprinted their entire 11 June 1944 edition in full today and it makes fascinating reading. Only 8 pages at a cost of tuppence, not like the modern doorstop size edition.

I remember that,& realise this wasnt the 1st sojourn down that alleyway,I do however feel that though it is "Lighthearted" it does nothing to further real Education on the subject,no one has to pay attention anymore or TRY to learn every thing is presented in "Pods" for supposed easy absorbtion,By offering a real programme that dealt with the subject in a matter of fact & serious manner, would have been a better spending of 30 minutes a day or so!as I said I'm of the G~O~G era so dont take me too seriously either~No one else does! Thanks for your comments! Roger.

The Papers are an excellent idea as they represent the contemporary reporting of the War without the 21st century Spin,It is "As It Happened" @ least in as much as the Censors would allow! So in that respect it is 100% Accurate, being a facsimile of What the Folks of 1939~45 were actually reading over the Sunnyspread & Toast!

I consider these type of programmes as space-fillers, a convenient way of padding out the day's broadcast whilst trying to remain 'on-topic'.
    Guess who doesn't watch them?

I totally agree. It's the same with movies. Old movies used to give you virtually pure history and blood but now it's a totally different story- usually a love one- in a historical setting eg. Pearl Harbor, Enemy at the Gates.
