My brother in law worked for the National Glass Works York until it closed in the 1980s. He walked past a skip which was being used to dump records from the firm. He rescued a Minutes book from the works committee during the war years. This record dated 22nd October 1943 made me smile. “The Air Raid shelters are being used for irregular purposes during the hours of darkness. To discourage this bad practise on the part of some Employees the shop fitters and sorting Foreman should visit the shelter as much as possible.
