    IRISH GUARDS ON THE BREMEN-HAMBURG AUTOBAHN

    Original wartime caption: The first tank that tried a loop road on to the autobahn came to grief. The bridge collapsed and the Sherman dropped into the stream.

    A Sherman tank of the Irish Guards lies in a stream after collapsing a bridge on the sliproad leading to the Bremen-Hamburg autobahn, 20 April 1945. The tank was eventually recovered undamaged.
