I thought i'd look in to this group and see if I could find anything out about my uncle, as my mother never did find out exactly how he died. I found the thread that contained extracts from 2nd Lt Fane's war diaries To say I found this thread staggering would be an understatement. My uncle was Colour Sergeant EDWARD WALTER FARMER mentioned in it. We were always just told that he died at Dunkirk. 2nd Lt Fane's typewritten account at last answers how and where he died and fills in a lot of background detail. I must search the Glosters records to see if a photograph of him is to be found as my mother lost her photographs of him during WW2. In half an hour I found out more than I ever expected. What a great resource this is.
Hello and welcome to the forum. There's quite a few accounts on here about the Glosters and some stuff by Lt Fane-I think there is a TV interview of him too. Interesting date of death on CWGC - 2 Glosters were in the UK then: CWGC :: Certificate I'm not in a position to upload pictures at the moment but I have a photograph of his name on the Dunkirk Memorial if you are interested? Regards Andy
