Hi So my Grandad John Abbott server in the first world war in the 60th battery (its the next area to search for information). But after the first world war i know he became a reserve in the the 2nd rha and then in 1939 became a full time soldier in the 60th battery royal artillery. Now this is where his service record (a reserve service book has minimal not no information past him being injured and not fit for service in 1943 ... he was known to be an AA gunner in Whiston village South Yorkshire... but it believe he did this afyer his injuries in 1943. So my questions are:- In 1939 when all reserves become full time soldier.. would my Grandad have joined the 60th or formed a new unit with the other reserves? Second or all if he was with the 60th battery did they join the 23rd field regiment? And lastly if my Grandad was in the 23rd field regiment form 1939 - 1943 where did he go? Other wise which unit could he have being in and where did they go? It would be much appreciated any help and advice on where to find information ... also i have 2 service numbers for him ...i am under the impression for this he reservist service number would be the one that was used ... i can provide this if it would be of use Ever grateful for help any help John
Hi, Your best bet would be to apply to Glasgow MOD for his service records. That will give you the definitive answers - everything else will be guess work. MOD may even have his WW1 papers on file.
