Im not sure if you can help me at all but i am searching for my grandfather and/or any family.
His name is ERNEST CECIL WINTER(S) and he served in ww2 in the royal artillery as far as we know.He was stationed at Trowbridge Wiltshire army barracks in 1941 and it is possible he was a corporal. We know he was lodging at 10 GREY TREE ROAD,ROSS ON WYE HEREFORD shortly after this, and he was paying money through the court for my mother from 1941 until she was 16.We were also told that he worked on the railway possibly at Bristol.

I know we have not much information but if you could help in anyway we would be most grateful.

    Thank you

Hi Wiltshiregirl and welcome to the forum.
Usual thing with this sort of request is to ask if you have applied for your Grandfather's service record. It would make research much easier the members/experts here and would provide you with some of the information you are seeking anyway.

    Hi and welcome

AS Mike has said you need to get his service records- I did and it takes a while but it is worth it.
You need to do Kinship form and SAR from so you may need to show proof of death
Include as much detail as you can

    regards

    Robert

Anyone with info on Squadron 11 RAF WW2? My father, a Canadian, was posted to the Squadron in late 1943 -- they flew Hurricanes on the India/Burma front. He was shot down and ended up in Rangoon Prison. I have some pictures I think of Squadron 11. I assume they lived in Bamboo huts for a while in Lalmai based on my Dad's flight log but wonder if they moved to Ramu which I think may have been the airfield where my Dad took off for a scramble in which he was shot done. Cheers.

    Hello and welcome

You would probably get a much better response by introducing yourself followed by your request in your own thread, it is likely to get lost inside inside another persons inquiry.

Wiltshire girl, do you know which part of the country he came from, as I guess he wasnt local to Wiltshire and roughly how old he would have been in 1941

We are not sure but my gran was born in 1906 so we are guessing he may have been about the same age.

There is an Ernest Cecil Winter who was born on 3 May 1908 (not unusual for the wife to be older in those days!) who died in Grantham in 1908. No idea if this is your man.
There is also an Ernest John C Winter who was born in Sept 1906 in Portsmouth and an Ernest Winter who died in Eastborne in Apr 1986...
What was your grandmothers name? Have you tried looking at your parents birth certificate to see if his name is on there as it will give more information if it is.

    Thanks for looking Dee
But the ernest i am looking for was still alive in 1948 and we know he served in the army in the 1940s

Unfortunatly he was not married to my grandmother,in fact he was married to someone else so his name is not on the birth certificate.
All we have is a letter he wrote to my grandmother in 1948 and a photo.

But i will look into the other 2 that you mentioned so thankyou agian.

Yes i think he was married in 1941 but dont know who too...
And in a letter he sent in 1948 he states that he would have never gone back to his wife so probably divorced at some point...

I have had a look at all my geneology resources, and whilst there are 2 possabilities, one in Grantham, and one in Croydon / London, nothing that I would hang my hat on and say this is your man Im afraid.

The one in Grantham, was born Cecil Ernest, rather than Ernest Cecil, but did marry in 1935 and is listed as a soldier, which would tie in with your man being a corporal in 1941.

He is in a family tree, so may be worth registering for a free 14 day trial, and send the tree owner a message with your email adress as they may recognise him from your photo.

It also looks as if he remaried in 1975.
