No information on Zarkoff on CWGC or any other area. Really need the investigators on this one.

Any further information would be appreciated.

Need assistance on Who/Where/What/How for this man who is on the Australian Commemorative Roll which is for those "Australians" who died in other Allied Services. If proved not to be "Australian" their names will not be removed from the Commemorative Roll however their details will be updated accordingly.

I have researched the Air Force members but there are many more Land and Sea deaths in a myriad of different forces.

There is not a lot of information on these people that can be accessed easily and I ask your assistance to fill in at least some of the gaps.

Hopefully some relatives may see this thread and add more.

I will make a different thread for each along the way as they may tend to get lost if clumped together.

Zarkoff is listed on the Australian Seamans Memorial however there is nothing about a death on the net that I can find on him for MV Barossa during the bombing of Darwin 19/02/1942.

I am drawing a blank for any variation of Zarkoff / Zarkov / Zharkov

The only ships log that may offer any help commences in March 1942 (I assume the one preceding this was lost)

No mention of any casualties on the Barossa during the February 1942 raids.

    Thanks Dave,

    Seems no deaths on Barossa.......................

I have tried all the Z's on the CWGC for a variation. All the deaths on 19/02/1942.

    *of, *off
    Za*

Even tried TS for the Z and nothing like it.

    Cheers

No deaths on the Barossa from the February 1942 attacks - he could have died / been killed during an incident sometime over the next few years.

By the looks of the ships logs held by the NAA the boat carried on well past the end of the war.

New Zealand Maritime Index from NZNMM

    NORTHERN TERRITORY - MAINFRAME

Barossa. Australian freighter, 4239 tons. Damaged during the Japanese air raid on Darwin, 19 February 1942. She was beached on fire after several direct hits but was salvaged and towed to Brisbane for repairs. [LW]

Hopefully Hugh may have some details on him.

    Thanks Hugh.

Appears to be a bit of a mystery however he is on the Australian Merchant Seamans Memorial.

    Cheers
