Why was he with this service? Any information would be appreciated. Need assistance on Who/Where/What/How for this man who is on the Australian Commemorative Roll which is for those "Australians" who died in other Allied Services. If proved not to be "Australian" their names will not be removed from the Commemorative Roll however their details will be updated accordingly. I have researched the Air Force members but there are many more Land and Sea deaths in a myriad of different forces. There is not a lot of information on these people that can be accessed easily and I ask your assistance to fill in at least some of the gaps. Hopefully some relatives may see this thread and add more. I will make a different thread for each along the way as they may tend to get lost if clumped together. WW2 Nominal Roll Navy Canteen Staff The primary purpose in publishing the Nominal Roll is to provide a list of those members of Australia's armed forces who served during World War II. The Department of Veterans’ Affairs accessed each individual’s Service record, as well as other official documentation, to collect the information displayed on the website. Canteen staff in the Army and RAAF were formally enlisted serving members and their names appear on the roll. However, Navy canteen staff were not enlisted and, as civilians, were required to sail on RAN ships, thus being exposed to similar hazards of war as serving members. In doing so, a number of canteen staff died alongside their Service comrades. In recognition of Navy canteen staff, the following is a list of names compiled from cards held by Department of Defence or Official Commemoration details recorded by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The Department would like to ensure this list is accurate, and if you have suggested amendments or have noticed any omission you should contact the Nominal Roll Team.
