I would be most grateful if anyone can shed light on which infantry battalions were with the 1st Armoured Division during 1940-41, while still in the UK as part of Home Forces? I understand that they did change during this period. Any help appreciated!
Thank you, this is certainly a useful resource! Unfortunately, it does not break down the constituent units of brigades, where one can find the infantry battalions. They should have been in 1st Support Group or later within the Armoured or Motorised Brigades. I am aware that 1st Bn Rifle Brigade and 2nd KRRC were in 1st Support Group at the outbreak of war in 1939, but that they were transferred to 30th Infantry Brigade and sent to France with BEF, where they were lost in the defence of Calais (although re-formed later). I can also find information on infantry battalions in 1942, once in North Africa, but am not finding any information for 1941 in the UK.
