I have recently received my grandfathers army records and on one of the pages under "distinctive marks and marks indicating congenital peculiarities or previous disease" it has written what looks like-- Indian Moths back both hands. Can anybody shed any light onto what these were?
    Many thanks

Can you upload good images of the section you are posting about. We have found in the past that sometimes the records have been incorrectly read, and members have solved a number of this sort of problem because we can read the original document rather than an interpretation of it - thanks

OK - so can you give more details - what ethnic source was your grand father, what religion was he, providing as much information as possible will help

Is it possible they were some form of tattoo - religious for example - without any real details its all guesswork

This could take a long time -- can you upload all his service record, we will need to see where he served, and with which units.

I assume these details match those of your grand father

    Alfred Bostock
    1902–1951
BIRTH 2 JAN 1902 • Bermondsey, Surrey, England
DEATH 14/03/1951 • Harrogate, Yorkshire, England

He is also shown as being born Albert Charles Bostock

    Father : Charles
    Mother : Frances James

Hi, they certainly do. Can I just ask where did you get the date of birth I knew that was his, but I have never found it on any site. I have been looking for years......so I do not have a birth certificate. Just give me a minute I have got a summary of his career which may help.

His birth date is on the document you posted in post 6 it also appears on a family tree that has the details I posted in post 7 - that is from Ancestry

So looking at the finer details it shows he was in India from 1925 until 1931 thats where I would guess he had the tattoos done on his hands
