Redirecting While fact checking my father's account of Harry yesterday, I realized it was only one day from the anniversary of his passing and thought he deserved some acknowledgement. He was a pro football player from the Bolton Wanderer's who served in the 53rd Bolton Rgmt Royal Artillery. Posthumously awarded the military Cross for his actions in combat, credited with destroying 4 of Rommel's tanks. Killed the 18th of December 1943, when a mortar exploded at the bottom of the tree he was using as an observation post. Redirecting I apologize for any technically incorrect information. I just thought it fitting to honor the anniversary of his passing. As the only male left in my family, maybe someone will remember dad for me some day when we're both gone.
Hello no mention of the Victoria Cross GOSLIN, HENRY Rank: Lieutenant Service No: 166334 Date of Death: 18/12/1943 Regiment/Service: Royal Artillery 53 Field Regt. Grave Reference XV. C. 29. Cemetery SANGRO RIVER WAR CEMETERY Additional Information:
Wiki states this: Henry Goslin MC, (9 November 1909 – December 1943), better known as Harry Goslin, was an English footballer who played for Bolton Wanderers for the whole of his professional career. He played in defence. I can find no MC citation at present and his CWGC certificate makes no mention of it. Anyone got better particulars? Best, Steve.
This says it was the military cross. I was going from memory, but not sure of the accuracy of this article. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&ved=0CEsQFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ozwhitelufc.net.au%2Fplayers_profiles%2FG%2FGoslinH.php&ei=qoPPUNivF4269gSCw4H4Bg&usg=AFQjCNH42bCsqqGo1vH5h7RAjtojN38EbA&sig2=r7lUUjy3o0enTEaC1lHEYA
Hello L/Bmdr, I have searched the Supplements to the London Gazette and can only find an entry for the 7 February 1941, announcing his Commission. Viewing Page 800 of Issue 35069 If he was awarded an MC it must have been after his Commission and should be stated on his CWGC certificate. Either he wasn't awarded an MC or the CWGC has made an error - not unknown. Could you please amend his surname in your title to 'Goslin' ?! Best, Steve.
Is it possible that the record wasn't updated as it was after his death ? http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&ved=0CEsQFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ozwhitelufc.net.au%2Fplayers_profiles%2FG%2FGoslinH.php&ei=UbjPUL2YDeaK0QH7lIGgBw&usg=AFQjCNH42bCsqqGo1vH5h7RAjtojN38EbA&sig2=3UX8iuOFOpzOCgaDT-RTOQ&bvm=bv.1355325884,d.eWU

Has LBdr A Peace applied for a copy of Henry Goslin's service record. If there is one thing that should confirm the award of the MC, surely it would be this?
I have no connection with Lt. Goslin, I just noticed the date of his death while fact checking my father's account of him and thought it would be nice to pay my respects on the anniversary of his passing.
I visit Harry Goslin's grave on my Italy trips. I did do some research on him, but I thought he was Mentioned in Despatches, not an MC Winner?
I visit Harry Goslin's grave on my Italy trips. I did do some research on him, but I thought he was Mentioned in Despatches, not an MC Winner? Thank you for the pic Paul. I'll send a copy to my father. I don't know where Wiki or the other sources got the info about the M.C. Thanks again, Scott
Lt H Goslin was seriously wounded on 14 December 1943 when a shell burst in the tree above his OP slit trench. He was evacuated having received a shell splinter in his back, which had left him paralysed. He died on 12-00 hrs on 18 December at No 5 Casualty Clearing Station from the wound suffered above. (Copies of the war diary pages below).
An Interesting thread, prompting a little bit of digging . I have tried to locate where this happened and have written an article on my blog. http://www.theobservationpost.com/blog/?p=685
